District residents are invited to apply to serve
Eugene School District 4J is inviting applications for its volunteer budget committee. There are three openings for three-year terms that run through June 30, 2017.
The committee gives direction, examines, and approves the district’s annual budget.
Residents interested in serving on the committee should apply by Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m., and attend the school board meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m., to speak to the board.

Applications are available online or at the 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St., Eugene. The application deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m.
Requirements
Applicants must be registered voters and must live within the boundaries of Eugene School District 4J. Applicants do not need to be parents. Eugene School District employees are not eligible for appointment.
Appointment process
Applicants should attend the Eugene School Board meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m., and be prepared to briefly speak to the board about their interest in serving on the Budget Committee. The board will vote to appoint three budget committee members at the following meeting, on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St., Eugene.
Term of service
The 4J Budget Committee is expected to meet several times over the school year, beginning in or around December. Meetings are normally scheduled on Monday evenings. New appointees may also be expected to participate in an orientation in the fall. The appointed members will serve through June 30, 2017. If an appointee wishes to serve longer, she or he may apply for reappointment in 2017.
About the committee
The 4J Budget Committee has 14 members: the seven elected school board members and seven citizen volunteers appointed by the board. The committee gives direction, examines, and approves the district’s annual budget. Positions are non-partisan and are not connected to any specific region within the district. Board and committee members are not paid.
