• All 4J schools closed Tuesday, Dec. 10, due to weather
• Only designated emergency staff report to work
• Athletic practices, activities and building rentals canceled
• Canceled school days will be made up later in the year
Friday’s heavy snowfall is still on the ground and is not expected to melt by Tuesday morning. Having checked the road conditions on school bus routes and determined that buses might not be able to operate safely on all routes, the district has decided to cancel school on Tuesday. After-school activities, athletic practices, and outside use of school buildings also have been canceled.
Only designated emergency staff will report to work. All other staff will observe an unpaid furlough day.
So that students don’t lose instruction time, any school days canceled due to weather will be made up on days previously designated as budget reduction/unpaid furlough days, or at the end of the school year. The scheduling of the make-up days will be determined and announced soon.
(Wondering why staff were asked to report if they could do so safely on Monday but not on Tuesday? The grading/training/planning day scheduled on Friday was canceled due to extreme weather conditions. On Monday, school was canceled for students because there were poor road conditions on some bus routes. Since there weren’t the extreme weather conditions seen on Friday, though, most school staff were able to come in for the grading or PD/planning time missed on Friday. Now that the day has been made up, we can return to this year’s plan to generally have staff stay home on weather-related no-school days and count them toward this year’s furlough days.)
