Three architect teams have been selected to design 4J’s new school buildings. The architectural partnership firms’ proposals were ranked highest among the 19 proposals received.
Four of the district’s oldest schools will be rebuilt in the next few years, thanks to voters’ approval in May of the school improvement bond measure. The first step is to select architects to provide architectural, engineering and other consulting services for the design of the new buildings.
The selected teams are all highly qualified and experienced architects who are passionate about school design for 21st century learning and the opportunity to contribute to our community.
- Howard and River Road / El Camino del Río Elementary Schools
Design project: Two new elementary schools to replace current buildings
PiVOT Architecture (Eugene) in association with DOWA-IBI Group (Portland)
- Arts & Technology Academy (former Jefferson Middle School building)
Design project: Combination of replacement and renovation of the existing building
Rowell Brokaw Architects (Eugene) in association with Opsis Architecture (Portland)
- Roosevelt Middle School
Design project: New middle school to replace current building
Mahlum Architects (Portland) in association with Robertson Sherwood Architects (Eugene)
Selection committees consisting of the principal from each school, at least one board member, and Capital Improvement Program staff reviewed the proposals, interviewed top candidates, and recommended the highest-ranked teams. The school board voted on August 14 to approve the selections.
After contracts are negotiated, the exciting design phase of the school projects will begin. Design committees for each school will kick off this fall.
