The North Carolina End-of-Grade Tests are designed to measure student performance on the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
Reading (Grades 3–8)
Mathematics (Grades 3–8)
Science (Grades 5 and 8)
The North Carolina End-of-Course Tests are used to sample a student’s knowledge of subject-related concepts as specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and to provide a global estimate of the student’s mastery of the material in a particular content area. The North Carolina End-of-Course tests were initiated in response to legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly — the North Carolina Elementary and Secondary Reform Act of 1984.
Alternate Assessments
State Board policy ACCT-021 requires all students with disabilities to participate in the statewide testing program by taking the standard test administration with or without available accommodations or by participating in an alternate assessment with or without accommodations. To participate in alternate assessments, students must meet eligibility criteria established by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), and the decision to participate in the alternate assessments must be documented in their current Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
