Evergreen Elementary is the third school completed out of four elementary construction projects, and six projects overall, funded by the 2019 capital projects bond.
This project was considered a school replacement project, as the new school building was constructed adjacent to the existing school, allowing students to attend on-site while the new school was being built. The new school opened its doors to students the first day of school for the 2021-2022 school year.
On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, then Superintendent Art Jarvis and school board members honored Hugh McMillan, longtime school supporter and tireless advocate of children, at a small ceremony to dedicate Evergreen Elementary School’s existing gymnasium as the future home of the Hugh McMillan Community Center.
The Evergreen replacement was designed by TCF Architecture and constructed by Absher Construction. The new school is over 50,000 square feet with 20 classrooms.

Hugh and Janice McMillan Community Center Dedication

The dedication plaque message reads:
"Through your words and photographs, you shined a light on the students and staff in the Peninsula School District. You believed our stories were worthy of being told and we will carry that with us forever.
Thank you for your inspiration. Your legacy will live on in the many lives you have touched."
Every time I drive to Evergreen and see the worksite, it still surprises me, and I reflect on how exciting this is for our school community and the energy this new building will bring to our staff,
