PENINSULA HANDS ON ART PROGRAM COORDINATOR
JOB SUMMARY:
This position oversees the Peninsula Hands on Art program in its mission to create a community of young artists that embraces the artistic talents of each individual child. The position actively provides the information and resources to help elementary students engage in visual art and art history. This position brings together members of the community at all levels to experience art in a meaningful way through collaboration with teachers, parents, volunteers, and artists.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Assistant Superintendent L&T
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and design 4 PHOA projects each school year (minimum of one 3D project).
- Research new and innovative projects for development.
- Find and coordinate guest artist for each project.
- Write lesson plans for each project.
- Organize and oversee filming of guest artist and historical presentation.
- Coordinate website updates.
- Set training dates.
- Complete facility request forms for each training venue.
- Coordinate with PHOA Board of Directors for training teams.
- Serve as a liaison between individual schools, school district, and PHOA Board of Directors.
- Maintain relationships with participating school principals.
- Organize and lead all training and community development nights (8 per year).
- Develop and implement a set of uniform forms and correspondence for all schools to utilize.
- Attend at least 1 staff meeting and one PTA meeting for each of the participating schools each school year (total of 16 meetings minimum).
- Develop PHOA “new teacher” informational packet for teachers who are new to the district.
- Research and purchase supplies needed for each of the four projects.
- Divide and distribute supplies to the respective schools at training nights.
- Serve as a resource for additional supply requests as needed.
- Maintain and organize PHOA storage room.
- Organize office operations and procedures that can be transferred to the next coordinator.
- Work with PHOA Board of Directors to secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations.
- Responsible for fundraising and community outreach.
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.
- Attend all PHOA board meetings.
- Develop quarterly online newsletter for participants and the community.
- Maintain and update online social media.
- Work with PHOA media committee to facilitate greater community presence and awareness.
- Strengthen PHOA relationship with Gig Harbor and Peninsula High Schools for mentoring and volunteer opportunities.
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components.
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
- In-district travel required
FLSA: Non-exempt
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- Successful experience implementing various art projects in instructional settings.
- Experience in group facilitation, planning, problem solving, coaching, and other leadership activities.
- Experience in teacher training in the use of art for instructional purposes.
- Experience with fundraising and community outreach to build program or curriculum support.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to produce professional quality materials for print and electronic dissemination.
- Ability to design and deliver relevant professional development to teachers, coaches, and administrators in support of measurable district and school goals.
- Has an appreciation and passion for art history and visual arts
- Ability to provide leadership to assigned personnel.
- Ability to work cooperatively with individuals and groups.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Flexibility.
- Ability to guide others effectively.
