Oath of Office: December 2019, December 2023
Serves on the Arts Advisory Council

Why I Serve: I serve because I want all students represented, including those who are not going off to college. Our students should leave high school ready to enter the world and be productive members of society whether that's entering an apprenticeship, taking a starter job or heading for college. I serve to provide the foundation for everyone to succeed.

About Me: I am a retired Battalion Chief, with 34 years at Key Peninsula Fire Department. I am a General Contractor, president of the Key Peninsula Community Council, Chair of Key Free Clinic, a member of the Peninsula Schools Education Foundation and the Key Peninsula Business Association. I graduated from Peninsula High School in 1976 and had two children go through the Peninsula School District. I live in Lakebay with my wife and step son.

Oath of Office:
December 2021
Serves on the Special Education Advisory Committee

Why I Serve: I am constantly inspired by the imagination and optimism of young people. I am deeply committed to expanding educational opportunities for children to grow and lead productive, meaningful lives. Our district has enormous potential to become one of the top-performing districts in the state and we are fortunate to be surrounded by an engaged community who value our public schools. I will work hard to ensure we have meaningful policies, diverse programs, clear budget priorities, high-quality curriculum and strong support for our professional educators and staff. The teacher who had the biggest impact on me was my freshman English teacher, Nelda Devroge, who believed creativity was a foundational skill for all types of learning. She taught us the importance of communicating with clarity, and believed every student has a unique and important voice.

About Me: I live in Purdy with my husband and two daughters. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and Master of Architecture from Catholic University of America. I am a Licensed Architect in the State of Washington and a former Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy. My volunteer work includes Stand Up for Peninsula Schools, the Peninsula Schools Education Foundation, Peninsula Hands on Art and Habitat for Humanity.

Oath of Office: December 2019, December 2023
Serves on the Facilities Planning Committee

Why I Serve: As a passionate supporter of public education, I am honored to serve on the board so I can give back to this great community. I am committed to ensuring that each and every child has access to the very best educational experience. My focus is on improving outdated facilities, learning outcomes, and student well-being. The teacher who had the biggest impact on me was Mr. Wilson, my Journalistic Writing teacher in 11th grade. In addition to teaching a fun class that we all looked forward to, he helped me “come out of my shell” and pushed me to develop a skill I didn’t think I had. With his encouragement, I became the Sports Editor of the school newspaper and received a journalism scholarship to WSU.

About Me: I live in downtown Gig Harbor with my husband, where we raised three children in the Peninsula School District. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Business/Marketing from Washington State University, and have worked in the banking and airline industries since college. In addition to years of volunteering at Discovery Elementary School, Goodman Middle School and Gig Harbor High School, I have been involved with numerous organizations including Young Life, Homes of Hope House Builds, Rancho Milagro Orphanage (Mexico), Peninsula Schools Education Foundation, and Night to Shine. I enjoy spending time with my family traveling, skiing, boating and attending Cougar football games.

Oath of Office: December 2019, December 2023
Serves on the Instructional Materials Committee

Why I Serve: I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the board, which felt like a natural progression after years of volunteer service and professional experience in schools spanning the country and abroad. My service is deeply rooted in a commitment to ensure all children have access to a rewarding pathway to graduation and a healthy preparation for life after high school. It is my honor to represent our community with a compassionate ear and a responsible voice in the development of policies, fiscal management, and projects that will impact families and our beautiful Pacific Northwest home for generations. The teacher who had the biggest impact on me was Mrs Libby McSheehy, 5th Grade, Kenwood Elementary. I can remember the way it felt to be in her classroom; encouraged, welcomed, and challenged. She remains my gold standard.

About Me: I live in Gig Harbor with my husband and their three sons. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley and worked in the world of international operations at a San Francisco based toy company before transitioning into public education.  I have classroom experience as an adult basic education and GED prep instructor and later served as a district military family liaison while living in southern New Mexico. In addition to volunteering on the school board, I serve as the chair of the Tacoma Narrows Airport Advisory Commission and am the Vice President of the Gig Harbor Sister Cities Council.

Oath of Office: December 2013, December 2017, December 2021
Serves on the Finance and Audit Committee

Why I Serve: Prior to becoming a School Board Director, I was actively involved in community service projects, focused on helping youth-at-risk, for over 25 years. The majority of my family – wife, sister, son, in-laws – are all in the education field. So, serving on the School Board was a natural calling for me. It has been an honor to serve my community on the Peninsula School District Board of Directors. The teacher who had the biggest impact on me was Mrs. Dickson, my high school algebra teacher. She allowed me to be me, which was not always an easy task. I was not the easiest of students but she encouraged me and I did well and passed her class.

About Me: I am originally from Texas and entered the military out of high school, becoming a Navy diver. I served 28 years in the Navy and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 2005. My family moved to Gig Harbor upon retirement after researching the Peninsula School District. My children attended Goodman Middle School and graduated from Gig Harbor High School. I have been committed to his community for over 25 years, serving on numerous local nonprofit boards in Tacoma and Gig Harbor.
