The Peninsula School District will place a 3-year Replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy and
a 6-year Safety, Security and Technology Levy on the February 14, 2023 ballot.

Proposition 1: Replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy

Replaces the expiring levy, to continue funding programs and resources not fully funded by the state.
  • The Replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy is critical to maintaining quality educational programs at our schools. It accounts for about 18% of the district's overall budget.
  • The levy funds programs and resources for students not fully funded by state basic funding, such as nurses, counselors, educators, athletics, arts, music, clubs, transportation, and preventative maintenance projects.
  • The levy replaces the expiring levy approved by voters in 2020.
  • The levy tax rate is estimated to be $1.13 per $1,000 of assessed value, decreasing to $1.11 per $1,000.

Proposition 2: Safety, Security, and Technology Levy

Provides dedicated funding for secure schools and equal access to technology to close opportunity gaps
  • The Safety, Security and Technology levy will create dedicated funding to better protect, serve, and prepare our students for the future.
  • School safety and security emerged as top priorities for our families and community during our strategic plan engagement process.
  • The levy includes funding for enhanced safety and security systems, such as secure building access controls, emergency communications systems, security cameras and cyber security services. It also supports technology improvements, student and staff devices and classroom instructional equipment.
  • The levy tax rate is estimated to be $0.25 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Financial information

  • The total local school tax rate, including both levies and the existing bond, is estimated to be $1.82 per $1,000 of assessed value, beginning in 2024. This is lower than the total current rate of $2.01 in 2022.

  • All levy funds approved by PSD voters stay in our school district.

  • PSD will continue to be fiscally responsible, making essential investments in our students while maintaining the second-lowest overall school tax rate in Pierce County.
