Mrs. Jill Wiggins--7th Grade English

Mrs. Wiggins attended Auburn University where she earned a BS in Secondary English/ History Education. Following graduation, she taught 9th and 11th grade English at both Berkmar High School and Brookwood High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia. While working toward her Master's degree in English at Georgia State University, she was employed as a tutor in the on-campus writing center and as an instructor for Freshman Composition.

Since relocating to Birmingham in 2002, she has worked in a private school for students with learning differences, a home-school cooperative, and most recently has taught 7th and 8th grade English to students at Louis Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia.   It was at Pizitz where Mrs. Wiggins was selected as the Vestavia Hills City Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Despite her varied experiences, however, Mrs. Wiggins would argue that her greatest classroom has been her home. Being the parent of a child for whom success at school does not come easily, whether due to learning differences, dyslexia, or autism, has informed her practice and the way she structures her lessons to ensure that her class is accessible to ALL learners.

She loves coffee, dark chocolate, a good book, and especially the lunchroom crispito.
