Katie Hayslip is very excited for another amazing year at Mountain Brook Junior High, and is looking forward to teaching both Spanish 1 and Spanish 1B. She hopes that this will be an excellent year full of vigorous learning, and is eager to get to know each one of her students through experiencing the rich language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world together! Katie's passion for language, culture and travel has been life-long, and she hopes that her students will want to continue their foreign language education and experiences beyond her classroom. She is also an avid YA reader, and loves spending time with her husband, daughter, three dogs and two cats.

 

Katie graduated from Truman State University in 2011 with a B.A. in Spanish and English and minors in Linguistics and International Studies. She also gained valuable and authentic knowledge of Spanish by studying abroad for a semester in Córdoba, Argentina. She then went on to receive her M.A. in Secondary Education from The University of Alabama in 2013.She has since gained experience by teaching Spanish and math in the Tuscaloosa City Schools system before teaching in Mountain Brook. Currently, she is also working towards a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies.  ​
