Sarah Fischer, a native of Denver, Colorado, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies and teaching endorsements in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, while participating in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and making the Dean’s List for College of Applied Human Sciences at Colorado State University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her M.A. in Special Education Generalist from the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to coming to Mountain Brook Junior High, she was an elementary special education teacher working in a severe needs classroom. There, she developed a curriculum for implementing Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) in literacy based instruction and presented at Closing the Gap, a nationally recognized conference specializing in assistive technology education and implementation strategies. She has a live webinar posted on Saltillo’s website and had the honor of presenting her teaching practices at several other conferences, including the Statewide Assistive technology Augmentative Alternative Communication (SWAAAC) conference.  She has been a leader on numerous school boards, such as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and enjoyed mentoring first year teachers. In 2019, she was nominated by her colleagues for certified employee of the year. Passionate about Special Education, Mrs. Fischer is so excited for the opportunity to teach at the Junior High!

Sarah moved from Denver to Birmingham to be with her husband, who is starting his Ophthalmology residency at UAB. When she is not in the classroom, she enjoys reading, hiking, golfing, gardening and eating delicious food! Mrs. Fischer is committed to learning and applying information about special education practices because these students deserve the best education possible!
