CPM Algebra 1 – Chapter 8

Quadratic Functions
 In this chapter, students will broaden their understanding of multiple representations of functions to include quadratic equations.  During this chapter:

  • Students will learn how to factor quadratic and simple cubic equations.  They will learn two common shortcuts.
  • Students will apply quadratic equations to a physical problem, a balloon toss, and consider the motion of an object under the force of gravity.
  • Students will learn how to solve quadratic equations by factoring and using the Zero Product Property.  They will recognize that these solutions are the x-intercepts of a corresponding parabola.
