CPM Course 3 – Chapter 9

Angles and the Pythagorean Theorem

In this chapter students build several core geometry concepts related to parallel lines and triangles.  The themes are learning about angles and the Pythagorean Theorem. During this chapter students:

  • Learn angle relationships for parallel lines intersected by a transversal (corresponding, alternate interior and same side interior)
  • Learn the Triangle Sum Theorem (conceptually using tracing paper not formal proof)
  • Use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve for the length of the unknown third side of a right triangle.
