CPM Course 3 – Chapter 10

Surface Area and Volume

In this chapter, students will study three‑dimensional shapes.  The themes of this chapter are surface area and volume.  During this chapter students:

  • Determine how to find the length of one side of the cube from the volume, using cube root.
  • Develop strategies to find the surface area and volume of several non-rectangular based prisms, including cylinders cones and pyramids
  • Compare the volumes of spheres and cylinders with similar dimensions to develop the formula to calculate the volume of a sphere.
