3rd Grade Unit 9 – Geometry

Unit Overview

Content Focus –

Students continue their work developing ideas about the attributes of 2-D and 3-D shapes.  In this unit they come to understand how these attributes determine their classification.  They also work with liquid volume, weight and mass.

Looking Back…

In 2nd grade, students used Geoblocks to identify geometric terms for different shapes and the attributes of those shapes.  They began to develop the understanding of volume as they put Geoblocks together to form larger shapes.

Looking Forward…

In grade 4 students deepen their understanding of the attributes of 3-D figures by describing and naming geometric solids.
