Content Focus –Students build the foundation that they will use in grades 3-5 and beyond as they work with fractions, decimals and percents. They will work to understand fractions as equal parts of a whole as well as exploring terms and notation associated with fractions. |
Looking Back…Students bring with them many ideas about fractions before 2nd grade. They often encounter fractions in situations in which they share or have to distribute equal groups. |
Looking Forward…In 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students continue developing ideas about representing, modeling and contextualizing fractions. Students work more extensively with the idea of a fraction as a number and work towards making connections between fractions, decimals and percents. |
