Content Focus –Students explore strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems within 50, and work towards fluency with addition combinations up to 10+10. They are making a critical shift, from thinking and working primarily in ones to thinking and working with groups of ones, including using 2s, 5s and 10s. |
Looking Back…This unit builds on the work students did in unit 1. They continue to build fluency with addition combinations, making connections to known combinations to build on. Students work to make sense of addition and subtraction story problems. |
Looking Forward…Students will continue to develop their understanding of addition and subtraction in all of the 2nd grade units. Later in the year, they will focus in particular on place value ideas. |
