International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program at North Eugene High School is a leap forward in Oregon career and technical education
4J high school students will soon have another option to choose from when it comes to high-quality preparation for college and career readiness. North Eugene High School is expanding its International Baccalaureate program.
North Eugene High School is the first school in Oregon authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate’s newest educational program, the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (or Program). North Eugene has been offering the IB’s flagship Diploma Program since 2008.
The IB Career-Related Program combines career-related skills with a rigorous academic program to prepare students for success in careers or post-secondary education.
Casandra Kamens, North Eugene High School principal, said, “We welcome the addition of the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program to broaden the appeal of an IB education to our unique student population. At North Eugene High School we prepare our students to live, work, and communicate in a global society, whether their path after high school takes them far afield or to opportunities in our own little corner of the world.”
North Eugene High School students will be able to choose from two options in the Career-Related Program: child development; and arts and communication. The child development strand will be linked to the school’s student-run community preschool program, and the arts and communication strand will focus on digital art design. Within the next few years, North Eugene hopes to expand the career options to include culinary arts and construction engineering. All of the courses in the career strands are linked to Lane Community College, guaranteeing credit at Lane for courses taken through the Career-Related Program.
Drew Deutsch, Regional Director for IB Americas, said, “We want to congratulate North Eugene High School on its achievement of becoming the first IB World School in Oregon to offer the Career-Related Programme. We anticipate that the CP will become one of the IB’s most popular offerings because its flexibility allows schools to cater the program to the needs, backgrounds and contexts of their students and their community.”
About North Eugene High School: North Eugene High School is a neighborhood high school and an International Baccalaureate World School. North Eugene enrolls students in grades 9–12, all of whom take IB Language and Literature and IB History in grades 11 and 12. Students may also elect to participate in additional IB courses to pursue the full diploma or certificate test.
