Final-Day Lockdown at Two South Eugene Schools Resolved

June 10, 2015 — South Eugene High School and Roosevelt Middle School locked down for about 45 minutes this morning due to a report of an armed subject nearby. The situation has been resolved and students are safe.

This morning there was a report of an armed subject seen near South Eugene High School. South Eugene entered a school lockdown. Police responded to search the area and the school. Nearby Roosevelt Middle School also locked down for student safety.

The reported subject turned out not to be a threat to students. He was a police officer in SWAT gear on his way to a training.

Schools regularly practice lockdowns and other emergency response, and many staff have recently completed training about active emergency response. Police responded swiftly, both students and staff responded well, and the lockdowns went smoothly.

The person who made the initial report, the police officers who responded, and the students and staff at the schools are all appreciated for their admirable response.

This is the final day of school for Eugene School District 4J. South Eugene is continuing final exams with a revised schedule.
