Public invited to open house about design of new middle school
The design of the new Roosevelt Middle School is taking shape! Community members are invited to a public meeting on May 27 about the design of the new Roosevelt Middle School building and site, including an option to sell part of the site to Eugene YMCA for a new Y facility. Participants will get an update on design progress, ask questions and share comments with the design team.
The project architects, Robertson Sherwood Architects and Mahlum Architects , have worked with a design advisory committee and gathered input from school staff, students and neighbors to inform the schematic design phase. At the May 27 meeting the architect team will provide an update on design progress and invite questions and input from the public.

In May 2013, voters in Eugene School District 4J resoundingly passed a school bond measure to provide funding for 4J school improvements. Four of the district’s oldest, most inefficient school buildings will be replaced or renovated over the next few years. The existing Roosevelt Middle School building was constructed in 1950 and is in poor condition. The three other schools are Howard Elementary School and River Road/El Camino del Río Elementary School, which will be replaced, and Arts & Technology Academy (the old Jefferson Middle School building), which will be rebuilt/renovated in place. The bond measure also will pay for improvements at every 4J school, including new student technology, updated instructional materials, security upgrades, building repairs, and more.
