The Swift Water Elementary School project is the second school completed out of four elementary school construction projects, and six projects overall, funded by the 2019 capital projects bond. The bond was passed by voters, approving school construction to address extreme elementary school overcrowding and other emergency infrastructure needs.
The 2019 bond issue also included funding for the construction of another new school, Pioneer Elementary. The opening of Swift Water gives PSD 10 elementary schools as part of 17 schools in total.
Swift Water and Pioneer are the first new elementary schools to be added to the district in 34 years. The last new, added school at the elementary level was Voyager Elementary School, which opened in 1987.
