Summary:

The community is invited to view a live stream of the ribbon-cutting and official opening of Pioneer Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 11 am.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines and precautions, there is limited capacity for in-person attendance. Those attending in-person have been contacted individually.

Please refrain from attending in-person and join us by watching the live stream available at psd401.net (featured on home page at time of event) or the PSD YouTube Channel. A recording of the live stream will be available after the event.

The event will include a welcome and introduction from Peninsula School District Superintendent Dr. Art Jarvis as well as remarks from PSD School Board President David Olson, PSD Director of Facilities Patrick Gillespie, and Pioneer Elementary School Principal Stephanie Strader.

On January 19, 2021, the new Pioneer Elementary School opened as the ninth elementary school in the district. The school is located on Skansie Avenue at the former site of the Boys & Girls Club building. The Peninsula School District purchased the building from the Boys & Girls Club in June 2019 with the vision to add on to the original building and create a full size elementary school for the district.

The Pioneer Elementary School project is the first school completed out of four elementary school construction projects, and six projects overall, funded by the 2019 capital projects bond. The bond was passed by voters, approving school construction to address extreme elementary school overcrowding and other emergency infrastructure needs.

Pioneer became the first new elementary school to be added to the district in 34 years when it opened in January. It is also the first two-story elementary school in the district and features 30 classrooms. As a magnet school with a science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) emphasis, enrollment is open to all students in the district.

In lieu of being able to offer in-person tours of the facility at this time due to COVID-19 protocols, a virtual tour video of the facility debuted on Monday, Feb. 22 ahead of the ribbon-cutting event.
