Minerva DeLand students gear up for Unity Day

Pause Before You Post

Students at Minerva DeLand School are learning how to be positive online citizens in the days leading up to October 20, when they will celebrate and strive for a world without bullying! 

October 20 is Unity Day, a day created by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. Students and staff are invited to wear orange on that day to declare their commitment to a world without bullying.

Fairport athletes raise donations for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Fairport volleyball athletes wear pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Fairport athletes are supporting the fight against breast cancer by raising funds and awareness for a local treatment center. The Fairport Varsity boys and girls volleyball teams went all in to raise funds for Pluta Cancer Center for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The two teams collected $1,000 to donate to Pluta by selling pink shirts recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

FHS students to perform as part of Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra

Four Fairport High School students have been selected for the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO), with three performances scheduled over the next season. FHS students Paul Besch-Turner (violin), May Fastais (violin), Noor Rouhana (violin) and Sammy Stringer (oboe) were selected in the Spring 2021 for the Youth Orchestra. Representatives from the RPYO say that the season’s tagline is “No More Distancing From Our Music!” The Fairport Central School District congratulates these talented musicians on their achievements!

Fairport welcomes new FHS Assistant Principal

Fairport High School (FHS) welcomes its newest assistant principal beginning Oct. 4, 2021, replacing Ashley Edwards who is now in the Brighton CSD.

After receiving Board of Education approval at the September 13 Board Workshop, Stephanie Miner is the new Blue House Assistant Principal at FHS. The District conducted an extensive process with a deep pool of highly qualified candidates.

Students will be dismissed 10 minutes early on Thursday, Oct. 7

All students will be released 10 minutes early on Thursday, Oct. 7 for the District’s annual drill required by New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations.

This drill also coincides with the District’s Safety Week, Oct. 12-15, in which students will learn and practice emergency safety drills. Fairport Schools practice these drills to refine communication processes,

Fairport student completes Eagle Scout Service Project at Northside

Fairport High School Student Stephen Sampson, a 12th grader, completed his Eagle Scout Service Project by constructing four picnic tables for an outdoor classroom in the Northside Elementary School courtyard. Stephen says the project, from the planning stages to completion, took 170 hours. Stephen says 17 adults and 11 Scouts from his troop and from the school assisted with the picnic table project.

Fairport increases retention & recruitment efforts due to National Bus Driver Shortage

The Fairport Central School District has been experiencing a bus driver shortage, as many districts are also experiencing on a local, state and national level. 

To mitigate the impact of the ongoing shortage, the District has continued with the following efforts:

  • The Board of Education approved a newly negotiated contract between the District and the Fairport Transportation Association that includes highly competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package for current and prospective bus drivers and attendants.
