Updates to Board of Education Public Comments for Meetings, effective Aug. 13

The Fairport Board of Education has updated its Policy #1514 “Public Expression at Board Meetings.” Effective beginning August 13, 2021, updates and a new sign-up procedure for individuals wishing to speak at Board of Education meetings are now in place.

The updates include:

  • 30 minutes may be set aside on regular meeting agendas to provide public comment by District employees and residents only.

Making strides in the Fairport High School Capital Improvement Project

Tentative plans to use Federal Funding 2021-2023

As previously communicated, over the next three years The Fairport Central School District will receive funding from the Federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act and the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act.

Reopening Schools – Advocacy

Monroe County superintendents have advocated for local control of reopening decisions. Regional factors like community transmission and vaccination rates, along with the effectiveness of layered mitigation strategies, may influence a school district’s return to school plans. While the Fairport CSD hopes to have some flexibility and discretion moving forward, districts are obligated to follow all guidelines as directed by the state.

Demolition work continues in classrooms, courtyards at Fairport High School

There are more big changes underway at Fairport High School. Over the past week, crews with Campus Construction and Labella Associates continued to demolish second floor classrooms overlooking the South courtyard. Demolition work also continued on the North courtyard and the cafeteria and kitchen. Meanwhile, the new stadium turf was laid in and crews wrapped up the final grading for the stadium field subbase.

Fairport board member resigns from seat

The Fairport Board of Education announces the resignation of Board Member Mr. Tim Slisz effective July 30, 2021.

“The Board would like to thank Mr. Slisz for his time and service to our community, including his time that spans decades in his role as a teacher in the District and as an elected board member,” said Fairport Board of Education Vice President Erica Belois-Pacer.

Julia Maddalina, a 2014 Fairport High School graduate, is the artist behind Portraits of the Frontline, a series of 100 paintings showing the faces of health care workers.

Demolition underway at Fairport High School

Major demolition work continues in the halls of Fairport High School as the 2019 voter-approved Fairport Forward Capital Improvement Project moves through this phase of construction. During the week of July 12, crews with Campus Construction and Labella Associates demolished cafeterias B and C, and completed the temporary lunch line setup in the gym.
