4J is joining with Comcast to provide high-speed internet at no cost for entire school year to support online learning
With online learning beginning Sept. 14, the Eugene School District wants to ensure all students have the high-speed Internet access they need to succeed academically and to connect and remain in touch with their teachers and peers. The district is offering multiple ways to help students and families close the “digital divide” at no cost.
Comcast Internet Essentials
Eugene School District 4J is partnering with Comcast to provide free internet access to qualifying 4J students to support online learning.
Comcast’s Internet Essentials program is designed for economically disadvantaged families to secure internet access. There is no term contract, no credit check and no installation fee.
Comcast is offering two free months of high-speed internet access to qualifying low-income families who apply before December 31, 2020. The district will purchase additional months of service for an initial 166 students, providing free internet access for their households for the entire school year.
You may be eligible if your student qualifies for free or reduced-price school meals, or if you are eligible for other public assistance programs such as housing assistance, Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), SSI, and others. You also need to live in an area served by Comcast and have not had Comcast internet in the last 90 days; households who owe money to Comcast may still qualify if approved by Dec. 31.
Families of students who need internet access and think they qualify should complete the request form (available here) or call 541-790-7757 (English) or 541-790-7758 (Spanish). Families should apply only if you think you qualify. The district will contact eligible families and provide you with a unique code to use when applying for the service through Comcast.

Internet Hotspots
Eugene School District 4J has a limited number of hotspots available to provide to students who do not have another way to access the internet at home.
You may request a hotspot from your school.
A Note About Bandwidth
We understand many people trying to work from home puts demands on bandwidth.
Synchronous learning opportunities will be at different times for different school levels, so your students may not always need to be online at the same times during the day.
