MPMS Summer Reading Program

6th Grade:
All you have to do is go to the closest Public Library and register your child.  The program this year is entitled Libraries Rock! From June 14th-August 17^th.  Then enjoy all the rewards offered during the summer program.  After completing the program, students must keep the reading packet to show to their English teacher. During the first week of school, you child should bring in their Public Library summer reading log that has been signed by a Public Library employee.

7th Grade:
Before you start reading, preview the writing activities attached to the guide. Then, choose at least two books to read this summer. Your goal is to read at least one fiction and one nonfiction book. For each book, you will complete one graphic organizer. For example, when you read a fiction book, you will complete a graphic organizer that is labeled ‘fiction.’ When you read a nonfiction book, you will complete a graphic organizer that is labeled ‘nonfiction.’ When you return to school in August, bring one completed fiction graphic organizer and one completed nonfiction graphic organizer. You do not have to complete the entire packet – you will have two graphic organizers to turn in.

8th Grade:
Use the suggested book lists and topics in the guide for your upcoming grade level. Read at least 3 books (at least one must be nonfiction). Complete three activities from the tic-tac-toe board. Complete a tic-tac-toe by completing three in a row up, down, or diagonal.

Marksman Team Meeting

October 17th is the interest meeting for the Marksman Team here at MPMS. The meeting will be held at 6:00pm in the cafeteria and parents must attend. You must have your Hunter Safety license to try out for Marksman. You can go on the NC wildlife web page and it will list all the dates to take the class around the area. See Ms. Hoyle if you have any questions.​

Toys and Gifts for Jeff Gordon Children's Center

Our school collected toys and gifts for the Northeast Children's Hopsital for Christmas. At Jeff Gordon Children’s Center the pediatric patients receive quality medical treatment and family centered care. However, the children and families that come to the hospital have other needs that generous individuals and organizations throughout the Cabarrus and surrounding counties help them meet. Your gifts of time, talent and toys are simple ways to help brighten a child’s day. This list offers suggestions for items that you or your organization can make or buy to donate to the pediatric patients at Jeff Gordon Children’s Center on the campus of Atrium Health Cabarrus. Mt. Pleasant Middle School is collecting items from this list next Monday and Tuesday, December 16 and 17. Please send any donations with your student to place items in the boxes in the Atrium in front of the Media Center. A prize will be given to the grade level that brings in the most items.

Sports Physicals

With Fall sports approaching and sports physicals needing renewal, FastMed wanted to share their current discounted sports physical voucher with Cabarrus County Schools. FastMed is a proud partner and sports physical provider of the NCHSAA. The attached voucher is valid through 12/31/19 at any FastMed location.  Students/parents can bring a physical copy or simply show the photo on their phone to receive the $29 price. FastMed is happy to support the Cabarrus County Schools, and are always here to help with injuries and illnesses, as well as sports and school physicals. Beta Club Collects 806 Items for the Sonshine Backpack Ministry

As their December service project, the MPMS Beta Club collected food items for the Sonshine Backpack Ministry. They brought in 83 cans of soup, 167 cans of pasta, 196 boxes/pouches of juice, 144 cups of Macaroni and Cheese, and 216 cups of pudding. Thanks to all the club members, parents, and community that donated to this organization that sends home food items with students for the weekend who may not have enough to eat. Pictured above are our 8th grade officers with the donations. Job well done!

Help Needed With Robotics Tournament - February 15

MPMS will be hosting our second annual robotics tournament on February 15th (Saturday from 8-4pm). Congratulations to Mt. Pleasant Middle School for exceeding expected growth on the EOGs for the 2018-2019 school year. Our school was recognized at the November Board of Education meeting.

Spelling Bee Winner

Congratulations to Ben Simineau for winning the MPMS Spelling Bee. He advanced to the county Spelling Bee that was held at Winkler Middle School on January 15th at 7:00 pm.

Band Award

Congratulations to Jason Parra for making 1st chair Tuba in the South Central District Middle School Honor Band. This placement has qualified him to audition for state honor band in a few weeks. Congratulations, Jason, and good luck!

Congratulations to three 7th graders - Garrett, Cade, and Carter - who well represented Mount Pleasant Middle School at the Soil and Water Conservation speech competition on February 10th. And a very special congratulations to Carter who received 2nd place for his Wetlands speech presentation!!

On behalf of North Carolina Technology Engineering and Design Educators Association, we would like you to join us in congratulating Mr. Zachary Trivett as this year's winner of the ITEEA Middle School Teacher Excellence Award from North Carolina! Candidates for the Teacher Excellence Award are characterized as providing technology and engineering education instruction of high quality, learner centered and relevant to a study of technological literacy.  Mr. Trivett’s work in the technology education field in North Carolina is outstanding! The Teacher Excellence Award is one of the highest honors given to Technology and Engineering Education classroom teachers and is presented in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the profession and their students. The Teacher Excellence Award provides public recognition at the local through international levels. On the state level, recognition is granted at the affiliated association's annual meeting, which will be the NCTEDE Annual Conference to be held spring 2020, dates and location to be determined. The honoree is formally presented with an engraved plaque and other recognition at ITEEA's Annual Conference. The ITEEA 2020 Annual Conference will be held in Baltimore, Maryland March 11-14, 2020. The Teacher Excellence Award winners will be recognized during a general session on Friday morning, March 13th.

McDonald's Offering Free Meals to Students 12 and Under

For the next two weeks, beginning on March 16, 2020 and ending March 27, 2020, or through the duration of the school closings due to COVID-19, we will be offering students 12 years old or under the choice of a free plain cheeseburger, plain hamburger or 4-piece nugget and a small fry, Monday – Friday, 11 AM to 1 PM. With the current conditions in mind, we ask that parents utilize the drive-thru option to order these meals. Students must be present, and parents will need to let the cashier know that they are a Cabarrus County student. This offer will be valid at the following locations:

Important Chromebook Information From Cabarrus County Schools Technology Department

The Technology Department is opening 3 schools as Chromebook Exchange Depots. These sites are Concord HS, Central Cabarrus HS, and Cox Mill HS. Our first Chromebook exchange is scheduled for April 2, 2020 from 1:00–3:00 pm. We have created a form on our Technology Department Chromebook Home Support Website that parents/guardians must fill out prior to exchanging their device. We plan to offer these exchange opportunities on a recurring basis and our website will be updated with these new dates and times as they are scheduled.

We are also aware that some students did not pick up a Chromebook on the previously scheduled dates. If your student still needs to pick up a device and can come to one of the depot sites during the exchange time this Thursday, please contact our school at 704-260-6530. You will need to leave a voicemail with your student's name, your name, and a phone number that you can be reached at. Someone from our school will contact you at the phone number you leave and will have to fill out a form in order for you to pick up a Chromebook at one of the sites.

The deadline for completing either form is 10:00 am on April 2, 2020.

Student Led Conferences

 Thanks to all the families that came out on March 10th from 4:15pm to 6:30pm for our student led conferences. Each student has made a digital portfolio which included information about themselves, their Personal and Academic WIGS, and sample work and reflections for each class and for extra curricular activities. They presented these and their LEAD notebooks all by themselves. Click on the link below for a few pictures of some of the families that attended. Pennies for Patients

Mount Pleasant Middle School Beta Club participated in their annual Leukemia and Lymphoma Pennies for Patients campaign. Students at MPMS raised over $2000 during the month of February . Way to go MPMS! Beta Club officers  pictured are: Mallory Seymore, Chloe Mullinax, Katelyn Barley, Emerson Bickerstaff, Ashley Montoya-Diaz,  and Elizabeth Farrell.

Congratulations to Ashleigh Miller, Mount Pleasant Middle School teacher, who has been named the 2020 Conservation Teacher of the Year by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (NCASWCD) and the Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD). 

 Ashleigh Miller formed part of the National FFA Organization program in 2017 and her students have won numerous FFA contests in the region, state, and national competitions. Miller's FFA students held a school-wide “Ag-stravaganza” event where students could learn more about forestry, aquatic resources, wildlife, recycling, soils, and everything related to agriculture.

 The Conservation Education Teacher of the Year Award is one of the many awards given by the NCASWCD. There are eight soil and water conservation “Areas” in North Carolina, and districts send their top candidate. The winner is selected from applications sent from across the state. Congratulations to all Cabarrus Soil & Water Conservation Contest winners!

PLEASE NOTE: COOKIE DOUGH PICKUP HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE BUS LOT BECAUSE OF THE RAIN!

Cookie Dough Delivery:

1. Cookie Dough pick up will take place in the BUS LOT from 3:00 P.M.-6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, May 20th.
2. Cars must enter through the front entrance and follow the normal car rider line directions. Note: Parents will not be able to park in the parking lot and walk up to the school to pick up their cookie dough.
3. There will be volunteers with walkies as well as masks and gloves.
4. Cars will be asked for the student's name and homeroom teacher name.  
5. Cookie dough will be placed on tables set up just outside of the aux gym at the end of the car rider line in the front of the school.  
6. Someone in the car must get out to pick up the cookie dough off of the table. 
7. Cars will then exit out through the high school exit.
8. If there is inclement weather, the tables will be set up under tents. 
9. Social distancing must be practiced the entire time!!! Thank you and enjoy the cookie dough!!!

Field Trip Refunds:

• We are working with our vendors to get as much money refunded to our students as possible. Once we receive all the refunds at the school level, we will begin processing student refunds.  A check will be mailed home after we verify the student’s address and the correct person to make the check out to for the refund. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

Final Exchange Time for May 27: Important Chromebook Information From Cabarrus County Schools 

The Technology Department is again offering a Chromebook Exchange Depot at Central Cabarrus HS. Our next Chromebook exchange is scheduled for May 27, 2020 from 1:00–3:00.

 We have created a form on our Technology Department Chromebook Home Support website. Parents/guardians must fill out this form prior to exchanging their device. We plan to offer these exchange opportunities on a recurring basis, our website will be updated with these new dates and times as they are scheduled. Encourage everyone to check that site often for updates.

 These depots are setup to swap out Chromebooks to replace damaged or failed devices. They are not designed to distribute devices to families that do not have devices. Those families should contact their school.

 Please help us get this information out to everyone.

Governor Extends School Closure 04/24/2020

 Cabarrus County Schools students will continue with remote learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Gov. Roy Cooper announced Friday, April 24, 2020, that N.C. public school students would not return to classrooms and school buildings to finish out the school year.
