Mrs. Marnie Stoker Selected as MPMS Teacher of the YearCongratulations to Mrs. Marnie Stoker, Theatre Arts teacher, for being selected by the staff as the 2013-2014 Mt. Pleasant Middle School Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Stoker has been teaching for twenty-one years with fifteen of those years spent at MPMS. Prior to teaching theatre, she taught 6th grade science, social studies, math and 4th grade. Mrs. Stoker graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and is certified in Theatre Arts (K-12) and AIG (K-12). She is a National Board Certified Teacher and is a member of NCTAE (NC Theatre Arts Educators) and ETA (Educational Theatre Association). Mrs. Stoker started the Theatre program at MPMS eleven years ago and is the director of our performance group, the MPMS Stagecrafters. She sponsors the MPMS Beta Club and the Shakespeare Club. Mrs. Stoker is originally from Winston-Salem, NC and is married to Scott Stoker. Outside of school, she loves cats, community theatre, and baking. We are very proud of Mrs. Stoker and all of her accomplishments!

2014 Reading All-StarsCongratulations to Kaleb Cook, Kyle Carlton, and Caitlyn Lee for completing the 2014 Reading All-Stars Challenge. Kaleb and Caitlyn were honorary managers and Kyle threw out the first pitch at the Friday, May 2nd Kannapolis Intimidators game against the Hickory Crawdads. Way to go Kaleb, Kyle, and Caitlyn!
Earth Week Celebration

Earth Week CelebrationThe MPMS Junior Beta Club sponsored Earth Week Celebration from April 14 - April 17. Classes were asked to decorate their doors using an Earth Week/Recycle Theme. The winning ventures were Ms. Bochniak and Mrs. Blackwell. They will receive an Ice Cream Party. Students and staff were also asked to wear green on Thursday, April 17.
Spelling Bee Winner

MPMS Spelling Bee Champion 2013Congratulations to Eric Allen for winning the MPMS Spelling Bee! Eric is an eighth grade student from Mrs. Bochniak's venture class. He participated in three school rounds and on the final round out spelled ten other students to win. Eric represented our school at the annual County Spelling Bee at 7pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Winkler Middle School. We are very proud of Eric!!
Wrestling Team Wins Championship

Congratulations to the Tiger Wrestling Team for bringing home the 2013 SPC Conference Tournament Championship!!The Tigers claimed medals in eleven of seventeen weight classes with 3 Bronze, 3 Silver and 5 Gold.

Crocking Around the Christmas Tree

"Crocking Around the Christmas Tree"Thanks to all the wonderful PTO parents who provided the delicious meal for the staff on Wednesday, December 18. Teachers were able to drop their students off at the cafeteria where parents helped supervise and then go to the media center for lunch to enjoy a wide variety of soups and crockpot dishes. Drinks and cookies were also provided. We are very blessed to have a very supportive PTO!!!!
MPMS Clothing Drive

MPMS Soaring Tigers Club sponsored its first clothing drive for MPMS students. This drive was designed to help MPMS students in need of clothing. It was amazing to see the response from staff, parents, and students in support of such a worthy cause. The club will be looking to host other service projects this year to help educate our students about the needs of all students in our community. We would like to thank everyone for their support including the MPMS Beta Club members who will help with sorting and purchasing storage bins. All excess clothing will be donated to Baptist Sharing House or CVAN. Thanks again for all you support!
Dr Winkler Visits 6th Grade

Dr. Butch Winkler Speaks to Sixth Graders About NepalDr. Winkler came to Mt. Pleasant Middle School to give a presentation on his adventures in Nepal climbing Mt. Everest to the sixth graders. He brought gear he needed to climb the mountain, pictures of his trip, and had a slide show. Dr. Winkler told about the customs of Nepal and how the schools were different from ours. He explained the difficulties climbers face going up to such a high altitude. Dr. Winkler told stories of the people he met such as the sherpas and monks. It was a truly educational experience that the children enjoyed. Thank you Dr. Winkler for being the teacher of the day at Mt. Pleasant Middle.
Curriculum Night 2013

The MPMS Curriculum Night was held on Thursday, October 17 from 6-8pm. Tents were set up in the auxiliary gym, the auditorium, and the 8th grade hall by grade level for students and parents to visit and see some of the great learning that is happening at Mt. Pleasant Middle. MPMS students who visited all tents for their grade level received a free hot dog and drink for every member of their family (thanks to the PTO). Everyone was encouraged to wear their favorite sports gear for the tailgating party. The Book Fair was open in the cafeteria where families were able to visit and purchase items before or after eating their dinner. Nathan Kindley Benefit

The Mt. Pleasant High School AWSUM Club (Athletes Who Share Unselfish Moments) is sponsoring a "Purple Out" for the varsity home football game on November 1st. They would like for everyone to wear purple/lavendar/violet in support of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Nathan Kindley graduated in 2008 and continued his education at Methodist University playing football and receiving his degree in physical education. They will have shirts for sale at the game for $10. (Click here for a picture of the front or Click here for a picture of the back)On Saturday, November 2nd, from 11am-2pm the club is hosting a benefit dinner at the high school cafeteria. For $5, one can receive 2 hot dogs, baked beans, chips, pickle, drink, and dessert. The goal is to sell 500 plates that day. Please come out and support this worthwhile cause.

Our School Zone Fundraiser has begun! Students will be selling packs for $20 that contain a Discount Card that can be used over and over again at area businesses and an entire SHEET of Discount Coupons for the most popular merchants in the area. Turn in dates are September 10, September 13, and September 20.Friday, September 20, is our last turn in day.Don't forget - Everyone who sells 5 cards will get to participate in the Dodgeball Tournament.

Pasta for Pennies Recognition
Congratulations to MPMS for raising $5102.59 for the Pasta for Pennies Drive last April in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This fundraising campaign was sponsored by the Beta Club and we were the 10th highest school in the state. Mrs. Marnie Stoker, one of the Beta Club sponsors, is seen receiving the banner that will be displayed in our school. Way to go MPMS!
PTO Pancake Breakfast

Thank You MPMS PTO for the Wonderful Pancake Breakfast!On Friday morning, August 23, the MPMS PTO treated the MPMS staff with a delicious pancake breakfast. Choices of plain, blueberry, and chocolate chip pancakes were offered with toppings of fruit and syrup and sausage patties. A variety of beverages was provided to accompany the meal. Door prizes of hanging flower baskets were awarded to some lucky staff members. We truly appreciate all the parents and students who came out to cook and serve our staff!

Mount Pleasant Middle School would like to extend a special Thank You to NAPA Auto Parts - Aube's of Mt. Pleasant for contributing a car care bucket as a door prize for the Cabarrus County Schools 2013 Leadership Academy. The bucket, containing interior and exterior cleaning and detailing supplies, was won by Dr. Mary Beth Roth, Principal of Winkler Middle School.Thanks NAPA for supporting your Tigers!!
MPMS Welcomes New API

We would like to welcome Mr. Drew Fitzgerald to Mt. Pleasant Middle School as our new Assistant Principal of Instruction. He is taking the place of Dustin Shoe who is now the principal at Beverly Hills Elementary School. Mr. Fitzgerald is a former Exceptional Children teacher originally from upstate New York. He has worked in North Carolina since 1997 and at Wolf Meadow since 2007 as an Assistant Principal. Mr. Fitzgerald has earned a Masters degree in Special Education as well as an add-on certificate for School Administration.
