• 2018 MPMS SOFTBALL TRYOUT INFO

     

    AUGUST 17: 5:15-7:00PM

    AUGUST 20: 6:00-8:00PM

    AUGUST 21: 6:00-8:00PM

    **Players have to attend all 3 tryout days to be considered in making the team

     

    - WE WILL START PROMPTLY AT THE SCHEDULED TIMES. Players should have cleats on and be ready to go at the start time, so please arrive a few minutes early. Parents please be on time to pick up your player at the end of each day. We will not go over the scheduled times.

     

    - Players should bring all equipment with them each day of tryouts to be prepared for offense and defense work. MPMS does not provide it for them. This includes cleats, glove, bat, and helmet. Catchers will need to bring catching equipment (if you have it).

     

    - Players will need to wear softball pants all 3 days (we WILL be sliding) and bring their own water.

     

    The team will be announced at the MPMS Open House on August 22nd (no practice that day). Those who make the team will start practicing on August 23rd. Practice times will be adjusted when school starts on the 27th.

    Rising 6th grade students are being asked to fully participate in the Cabarrus County Public Library’s summer reading program. Students at the elementary and middle schools have received information within the past few weeks.

  • Zone card MPMS PTSO FUNDRAISER
     
    Students brought home on Tuesday, September 4, five School Zone Fundraiser packs. The School Zone Pack is a program that will save everyone money! Each School Zone Pack contains both a Discount Card and a Coupon Sheet that is a collection of the most popular merchants in our local area.The customer receives two items when they purchase the package from the student. The first item is the COUPON SHEET; the second item is the DISCOUNT CARD. The person then may use the Discount Card over and over again, and then use the coupons to save even more money. Each student is responsible for returning the items not sold. Cost of School Zone package is $20.00. Students collect cash/check at time order is placed. Checks should be made out to Mt. Pleasant PTO. Turn in dates are September 14, September 21, September 28 and October 5. Click here to see a list of prizes that students can win!

    If you are interested in the Mount Pleasant Middle School Marksman Team, please come to an interest meeting this Thursday at 6:00 in the cafeteria. You must have a parent with you to sign all papers. Mr. Keith Helms will be discussing tryouts and expectations of the team and making sure hunter safety license are up to date. ​

    The 7th Grade is currently participating in the Yankee Candle Fundraiser in an effort to help students pay for their Charleston trips. Even if you do not have a 7th grader at MPMS, you can still help earn money to create scholarships for students who are going through a financial hardship. Quick facts about the fundraiser:

    We partnered with Union Middle School in Sampson County and donated school supplies and socks to help those suffering from Hurricane Florence. Mr. Farrar delivered 24 boxes of school supplies and monetary donations on October 29. We are proud of our MPMS Tigers!

  • VEX Robotics Competition

    MPMS will be hosting a VEX IQ Qualifying Tournament February 16th from 8-4pm at Mount Pleasant Middle School (446 Walker Rd. Mt. Pleasant, NC 28124). For this event to run effectively, we rely on the help and assistance of many volunteers. Volunteer check-in will start at 7:30 and lunch will be provided for anyone who volunteers.   • Tiger Paw Honor Roll Recognition Program 

    Congratulations to the students who made the A/AB Honor Roll for the 2nd nine weeks. To celebrate this honor the students and their parents were invited to attend an Honor Roll Celebration in the auditorium during the student's encore time. 

    The date of the program was Friday, February 8, 2019. The encore times are 6th Grade - 9:30am, 7th grade – 12:00noon, and 8th grade – 2:00pm After the honor roll celebration, there was a time for the parents to socialize with the students and celebrate with them in honor of this special time!

    Thank you so much for your support! Congratulations to the honor roll students. Tiger students are the best!

    Soil and Water Speech Winners

    Brenna Arrowood, Ellie Blackwell, and Mallory Seymour are Mt. Pleasant's top three finalists for the Cabarrus County Soil & Water Conservation's public speaking contest. These ladies researched, wrote, and delivered 4-6 minute speeches on "Our Living Soil." The county competition was on January 31st. Brenna placed 1st, Mallory placed 2nd, and Ellie placed 3rd. Please wish Brenna luck as she continues in the competition and hones her speaking skills.

    Our school was the subject of an article appearing in the February issue of the NC New Teacher Support Program. Our liaison, Lori Best, at Union Middle School is the author of the article and this newsletter went out to their partnering districts and beginning teachers across North Carolina.  Everyone at Union Middle was very excited and appreciative for all of MPMS's help after Hurricane Florence.     The students from MPMS represented very well at the NCTSA State Conference in Greensboro. This is by far the best performance MPMS TSA has had in it's 3 years of existence and we are very proud of what they have done.

    Nineteen of our FFA members competed at the Southwest Regional Rally on Friday, May 3. Students had a great time! Our Parliamentary Procedure team placed 3rd in the SW Region and qualified to compete at State Convention! Several students & teams received their regional awards for previous competitions including: 1st in Dairy, Horse, & Livestock Evaluation Teams in MG SW Region; 2nd Jr Horse Team in SW Region; 3rd Jr Livestock & Dairy Team in SW Region; 3rd individual in Dairy Handling in SW Region Marianna Harrison; and Mallory Seymour placed 4th individually in Prepared Public Speaking; plus several other individual placings. All the students who attended should be VERY proud and learned something!

  • Sports Physicals 2019-2020

    Sport Physicals will be held at school on June 7. The physicals will be conducted during the school day. You must have paperwork completed and money ($5) the day of the physicals. Paperwork will be given out during PE/Health classes. Any questions, please see Ms. Smolick.

    Congratulations to Seth Winchester, a seventh grade student, who won a Union Power Cooperative scholarship for the annual Roy Williams UNC Tarheel basketball camp. Applicants were judged on their academics, extracurriculars, and a personal essay. Middle schools are given a small number of applications across the state and Seth is one of only a handful of other students who were chosen.  We are very proud of Seth!!!

    Congratulations to Noah Condie for winning 3rd place in the UNC Digital Citizenship Video Contest! He received an Amazon Echo and was recognized at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 13! Way to go Noah!!!

  • Haney

    Mrs. Haney had two of her former students she taught at Harrisburg Elementary, Garrett and Lemi, share about their life growing up in a small African village off the coast of Ethiopia.  They compared a typical day in the life of an African child to life here in the United States.  The students got to try an Ethiopian bread called Injera. They also were able to hand grind coffee beans. Coffee is very important in the Ethiopian culture and they hold coffee ceremonies two times a day. Mrs. Haney just finished  reading the book Long Walk to Water which takes place in Africa , and  her ALPS class did a nonfiction unit on Schools Around the World.

  • Art Award

    Congratulations to Tiana Illuzzi! Tiana won the Cabarrus County Schools “Grade Level Excellence Award”. Her artwork was chosen to represent her grade level during this year’s Cabarrus County Schools Youth Art Month exhibit in downtown Concord. Her illustration, “Love In The Rain”, is a wonderful translation of the text she chose for the project.
