Night of the STARSStudents Trying and Reaching Success!October 146:30-8:00 pmParents attended our Night of the STARS on Tuesday, October 14th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. There was a general meeting in the gymnasium from 6:30-6:50pm. Students then guided their parents around the school to show all the work, displays, games, and presentations. There were creations from every curriculum area showcased at this event. Popcorn and drinks were served as light refreshments. Thanks to all who came to see their star's shinning work!

Congratulations to New Beta Club OfficersCongratulations to Caroline Sobolowski, President; Reid Fisher, Vice-President; London Little, Secretary; Trey Barrett, Treasurer; and Ariana McDaniel, Reporter who were selected as the new officers of the Beta Club for 2014-2015. Fifty new members were inducted in to the Beta Club on Friday, September 26 in a ceremony at 2:30pm in the auditorium. Afterwards, the new members and their guests were invited to a reception in the cafeteria. We are very proud of all of the students who are returning members or new members in the MPMS Beta Club!

Mason Koob Wins National Recognition with Boy Scouts of America
One of Mount Pleasant Middle School’s 8th grade students was awarded a very special honor through the National Boy Scouts of America. Congratulations to Mason Koob for his accomplishment after his heroic acts of bravery during a house fire at his home last year. The honor medal is awarded to a youth member or adult leader who has demonstrated unusual skill while saving or attempting to save a life at considerable risk to one’s self. In 2013, only 98 awards were given and since 1923 only 2,452 of these honor awards have EVER been granted! Congratulations again to Mason!
All County Middle School Band

All County Middle School BandCongratulations to Michael Trull (seated), Daniel Isenhour, Sarah Al Zaid, Michael Wax, McKenzie Maynard, and Maddalyn Bergeron for their selection into the Cabarrus All County Middle School Band. These students represented our school during the weekend of December 13 and 14 rehearsing and performing with other select students from all of our Cabarrus County middle schools. We are very proud of these students!
2nd 9 Weeks Honor Roll Recognition

Honor Roll Recognition Program
Congratulations to the students who made the A/AB Honor Roll for the 2nd nine weeks. To celebrate this honor they will attend an Honor Roll Recognition during the child’s encore time.The date of the program will be February 6, 2015. The time for the child’s encore is 8th Grade - 9:05, 7th grade – 12:00 and 6th grade – 2:00. Parents of Honor Students - Please check in with the front office and come to the auditorium. After the recognition we will have light refreshments for parents to celebrate with their student. The student will then go back to his/her encore class to finish out the period.
Thank you for your support, and enjoy this time with your student. It is an honor to be able to celebrate with MPMS students and the recognition of Work for Success that our PAWS represent.
Conservation Speech Winners

Conservation Speech Winners Tyler Pickett,from Ms. Sirse’s ELA class, won first place for the MPMS Cabarrus Soil & Water Conservation District speech competition. Tyler went on to compete at the Annual Public Speaking Contest in Concord on December 9. Out of 5 schools and 621 participants, we are proud to announce Tyler won first place again. Tyler was recognized on Channel 22 News on Monday night, December 15 when he spoke at the Board of Commissioners Meeting. Tyler will also go on to compete at the county-level in March. Wish him luck! Ms. Sirse and Mrs. Sleight-Price’s AIG/Scholars ELA courses participated in the Wetlands are Wonderful Speech Competition. This speech was sponsored by the Cabarrus Soil & Water Conservation District. Out of the 48 competing students from MPMS, these six were the top presenters between both classes. Congratulations to Joshua Shields, Adam Measimer, Zechariah Sawyer, Billy Merithew, Tyler Pickett, and Morgan Maddaluna.

MPMS Wrestling Team - Conference and Tournament Champions!Congratulations to the wrestling team for winning the conference championship December 13 at Harris Road Middle School. Gold Medal winners were: Cade McDonald, Michael Lambert, Garrett Overbay, Garrett McManus, Jacob Shields, and Robert Tyler. Silver Medal winners were: Mackay Burke, Cade Couch, and Eli Williams. Bronze Medal winner was Preston Hudnall. A special congratulations to the Tiger wrestlers that finished the season with an undefeated record: Cade McDonald 13-0, Garrett McManus 12-0, Robert Tyler 12-0 and Jacob Shields’ two year record of 26-0. THANK YOU for your support of our wrestling team this year!

MPMS Spelling Bee Winners
Congratulations to Joey Sisinyak for winning the MPMS Spelling Bee on Thursday, December 11. AJ Vazquez competed in the Cabarrus County District Spelling Bee on January 7, 2015, at 7:00pm at Winkler Middle School.The top three participants in the Spelling Bee were Madison Harris, 3rd Place; Joey Sisinyak, 1st Place, and AJ Vazquez, 2nd Place.

2015 MPMS Science Fair WinnersCongratulations to Ryan DeVitto, Caroline Sobolowski, Joshua Gray, Scott Hoover, Silas Timberlake, Kateline Hinson, Elizabeth Harvell, and Rylee Sepesi for being selected to move to the next level in the Cabarrus County Science Fair. Shakespeare Recitation Competition
Sarah Al-Zaid, Ty'zhanay Fair, Stuart Jackson, Larken Lancaster, Ellis Horton, Caroline Sobolowski, and Katelyn Usher participated in the annual Shakespeare Recitation Competition on Wednesday, March 4 at Wingate University. Students had to perform a Shakespearean sonnet and monologue. Caroline Sobolowski placed 4th in the middle school division.
Beta Club - Pennies for Patients

The MPMS Beta Club sponsored the annual Pennies for Patients Service Project for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in February. MPMS raised $2713.92. Way to go Tigers!
Regional Science Fair Winners

Region 6 Science Fair WinnersThe Mount Pleasant Middle School Science teachers would like to congratulate Caroline Sobolowski and Joshua Gray for their successes at the 2015 North Carolina Region 6 Science Fair. Caroline Sobolowski won 1st place in the Biological Science category and the Broadcom Masters Award for her project on plant growth. Joshua Gray won the Naval Science Award for his project on bacterial growth.Congratulations to Caroline for placing third in the State Science Fair during Spring Break. She competed against 300 other entries in her category!

Congratulations to Tyler Pickett!Tyler Pickett, from Ms. Sirse’s 7th grade ELA class, has been participating in a series of speech competitions over the past few months. He won first place for the MPMS Cabarrus Soil & Water Conservation District speech competition. Tyler went on to compete at the Annual Public Speaking Contest in Concord on December 9. Out of 5 schools and 621 participants, we are proud to announce Tyler won first place again. Tyler was recognized on Channel 22 News on December 15 when he spoke at the Board of Commissioners Meeting.On Saturday, he won 1st place at the regional competition and will go on to the state competition on May 8.
Cabarrus County Optimist Club Speech Contest

Congratulations to RJ Burks!Congratulations to RJ Burks for placing 3rd in the Cabarrus County Optimist Club Speech Contest on April 3rd. RJ is a seventh grade student on the Avengers Team. His ELA teacher is Mrs. Genesis Sleight-Price. The topic of RJ's paper was "How My Optimism Will Help Me Press on to Greater Achievements of the Future." RJ will be able to compete again next year and if he wins first place he will receive a $25,000 college scholarship. He did a great job and we are very proud of him!

Congratulations to the Marksman Team!
The Marksman Team received the 2015 Sgt. Barry Rowell Sportsmanship Award for the District 6 Middle School Tournament. The award states Professional-Fair-Integrity- Dedicated- and Trustworthy. This is the first year that this award has been given to a team in honor of Sgt. Barry Rowell who passed away this year. He was a great man and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission thought it fit that the Mount Pleasant Marksman Team completed with such pride and respect that they were presented with the award.
Nate Nurse - Special Olympics Winner

State Special Olympics Winner
Congratulations to Nate Nurse, a 6th grader at MPMS, who won 3 gold medals in the state Special Olympics. His gold medals were in aquatics….25 meter freestyle, 15 meter freestyle and the freestyle relay. We are very proud of Nate!
Hometown Hero

Ms. Monica Clapp Selected as Hometown HeroCongratulations to Monica Clapp, a sixth grade math teacher who has been selected as the April Hometown Hero for Cabarrus County Schools.Hometown Hero is a teacher recognition program sponsored by Charles G. Monnett III & Associates (Monnett & Associates) to help teachers offset some of the hundreds of dollars they spend of their own money each year in classroom supplies.Bob Dill, marketing director for Monnett & Associates brought Domino's Pizza for the class and presented Ms. Clapp with her award on Thursday, May 7.
Farrar and Bus Race

School may have come to a close, but Mr. Farrar was hard at work racing his way to the front of the field as Charlotte Motor Speedway to kick off the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout with Principal School Bus Racing on the front stretch quarter-mile. In addition, fans were treated to a full slate of Legend and Bandolero racing. Our students, parents, faculty, and community came out to cheer for our favorite principal as he drove this bus painted by Ms. Michele Turner and some of our students! He didn't repeat his win again this year but he is already gunning for next year!

What should I bring back to school in August for my summer reading?After reading three books (a combination of fiction and nonfiction), 7th graders should have completed THREE graphic organizers of their choice.
