The cell (from Latin cella, meaning "small room") is the basic structural, functional, and biological unit of all known living organisms. Cells are the smallest unit of life that can replicate independently, and are often called the "building blocks of life".Powerpoints and Work:
- Monday, September 25 :
- Cell Types and Organelles and More Cell Organelles
- Draw an animal cell and plant cell on the board and define the organelles
- Cell Organelle Job application
- Name of organelle (get creative!)
- draw a "recent picture" for ID (Must be on unline paper and in color)
- Answer the following questions (At least 2 or three sentences a piece, in paragraph form, and written from the organelles point of view)
- Which department do you want to work in (animalia, plantae, or eubacteria)
- What can you offer to the department? (Specialized functions and abilities)
- How are you going to work with your coworkers? (Must talk about at least two different organelles you will work with)

- Wednesday, September 27:
- Cell Is like ...
- Pick a place, buiding, item, animal or machine that a "cell is like"
- Draw a picture of your choice and label the parts that are analagous to an organelle
- Each analogy must be explained. If their is no room on the front then you may write it on the back
- The drawing must be in color
- Organelles to include:
- Mitochondria
- Chloroplast
- ribosome
- lysosome
- nucleus
- golgi complex
- cell membrane
- ER (either snooth or rough - whatever you can make work!)
- cell wall
- large central vacuole
- optional - any other organelle or cell parts you can make work!!!
