• Standard Four: Comprehensive Programming within a Total School Community

    The LEA provides an array of K-12 programs and services by the total school community to meet the diverse academic, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of gifted students.

    Transitioning to Middle School

    Elementary AIG identification transfers with students to middle school.  The elementary Gifted Education Specialist completes a middle school transition form on each identified AIG student.  The form is hand delivered to the middle school gifted specialist along with files, work samples and other data.

     

    6th Grade AIG E/LA: 

    AIG Reading placement in the elementary grades may continue in Middle School AIG E/LA if the student has and 85+ average in E/LA by the end of the year.  If the student has lower than an 85 average, the AIG Program Team will review student scores and performance in order to make the most appropriate decision for each student. 

    Note: if an AIG student was not identified in elementary in the E/LA area, 3 out of 4 of the following indicators must be met.

    o   93%ile on a standardized aptitude test (CogAT, OLSAT)

    o   A 5th grade EOG Reading score of 90% or 90% on a standardized reading achievement test administered during 5th grade

    o   E/LA End of Year Average of 85+

    o   Teacher Recommendation

     

     6th Grade Accelerated Math Program – Sixth (AMPS):

    AIG Math placements in elementary grades math continue in Middle School AIG (AMPS) if the student has an 85+ average in math by the end of the year.  If the student has lower than an 85 average, or if the student scores a Level 3 on the Math EOG, the AIG Program Team will review student test scores and performance in order to make the most appropriate decision for each student.

    Note: if an AIG student was not identified in elementary in the Math area, the following criteria will need to be met in a new evaluation.  Student must have 4 out of 5 of the following indicators:

     o   93%ile on a standardized aptitude test (CogAT, OLSAT)

     o   A 5th grade Math EOG scale score 90% or 90% on an equivalent standardized math achievement test

     o   A 5th grade EOG Reading scale 76% or 76% on a standardized reading achievement test administered during 5th grade

     o   Math End of Year average of 85+

     o   Teacher Recommendation
