The National Model for School Counseling Programs (American School Counselor Association) guides the school counseling program at Hickory Ridgel High School. College planning is not a separate strand within the model but is recognized as an important component infused through all other strands. It is certainly a vital part of our program at Hickory Ridge High School, as 90% of our students participate in some form of higher education immediately following high school, therefore we treat it as a separate strand of the model in and of itself. Higher education and/or other advanced education/training beyond high school are essential in most jobs today. The decision to invest time, effort, and financial resources in education beyond high school is a serious one and should be carefully considered. Making the best choice for an individual's strengths, needs and plans is essential for success and well-being across the lifespan.
