Class of 1936, Athlete, 2007 Inductee
Just a little over one decade from women acquiring the right to vote in the United States, there were scant opportunities for women in athletics. With the only established program being Basketball this inductee capitalized, in a big way, on her opportunity. In her era girl’s basketball was played with six players on each team. Three offensive players on one half of the court and three defenders on the other half.
Considered by many to be the best defender in the Wyoming-Livingston County area, she led her teams to an astounding record of 53-5 over a four-year period. At the time of her induction, this still stands as the best four-year record in Warsaw Girl’s Basketball history. With her on defense, the 1934-1935 team went undefeated while outscoring their opponents 456 to 160. During her four-year career, the Warsaw girls outscored their opponents by almost four to one. As captain of the teams during her Junior and Senior years, she is remembered as a tough competitor and a wonderful leader.
