Nine (9) Odyssey of the Mind teams will represent Fairport at the New York State Finals Tournament on March 23 in Binghamton, N.Y.  Fairport CSD hosted the Greater Rochester Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament on March 2.

Fairport’s NASA HUNCH students present projects for mid-year review to NASA reps

Students in the High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware (HUNCH) program at Fairport High School (FHS) completed a mid-year review of their projects on February 27. The process determines which projects will be selected to attend the final review at Johnson Space Center in Houston this upcoming spring.

Online safety for children

Local and national news have been covering a social media concern that is alarming to parents and could be harmful to students. This recent increase in online safety concerns is an appropriate time to revisit students’ online behaviors in school and at home.

The challenge that is surfacing involves a fictitious video character that allegedly challenges viewers to contact them via private message and then perform acts to avoid being “cursed.” These acts are said to include self-harm and extreme actions such as suicide.

FCSD will be closed Jan. 31, budget meeting canceled

Fairport Central School District will be closed Thursday, Jan. 31 due to winter weather conditions. This includes all extracurricular activities.

In addition, the Learning Links will be closed Wednesday evening and all day Thursday.

UPDATE: The community budget meeting originally scheduled for this evening is canceled due to weather conditions.

Keeping students safe during winter weather

Weather in the Rochester area is unpredictable and, at times, extreme. The decision to close schools based on forecast weather is not an easy one, as the district’s commitment to educate students comes second only to keeping students and staff safe.

Low temperatures and deep wind chills are forecast for the region in the coming days.
