It is with a very heavy heart that we must acknowledge another tragic and traumatic event that further divides us and heightens racial tensions throughout our community. In addition to racial tensions and trauma brought about by the tragic death of Daniel Prude, this devastating situation highlights the difficulties and lack of resources our community has to respond to mental health emergencies.
FHS named Recognition School by New York State
Fairport High School has been designated as a Recognition School by the New York State Education Department for the 2019-20 school year.
Under New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan, Recognition Schools are those that have high academic achievement, student growth and graduation rate, and have made progress during the 2018-19 school year.
Fairport Launches new Communication Platform – ParentSquare
ParentSquare is the Fairport Central School District’s new communication platform, primarily with email, text and app notifications, to engage every parent/guardian in ensuring all have the opportunity to actively participate in their child(ren)’s education. ParentSquare is now available for staff and parents/guardians to use on their computers or mobile devices.
2020-21 School Calendar Changes: New 1st Day of School Sept. 10
The Fairport Board of Education approved changes to the 2020-21 School Calendar at the August 18, 2020 Board of Education meeting that changes the first day of school from September 8 to September 10 to allow faculty and staff extra days to prepare for the school year, and changes December 23 to a Superintendent Conference Day.

Dominic Monacelli is Minerva DeLand’s new Acting Principal
The Fairport Central School District has appointed Dominic Monacelli as the new Acting Principal for Minerva DeLand School. Monacelli has been serving as an assistant principal of Fairport High School since 2014.
“Mr. Monacelli is completely invested in developing, nurturing, and sustaining the best environment for our students and staff to thrive and be successful,” said Superintendent of Schools Brett Provenzano.
Pam Ciranni appointed Fairport’s new Acting Director of Special Programs
The Fairport Central School District is pleased to announce Pam Ciranni as the District’s Acting Director of Special Programs. She was most recently the principal of Minerva DeLand School. Ciranni will oversee special education programming in grades 6 – 12, as well as Fairport’s K-12 music program. She replaces Susan Walz,
COVID-19 testing in schools
Recent comments by Governor Cuomo regarding COVID-19 testing in schools have raised questions as they are contrary to what the state’s own guidance documents recommend (see below):
“It is strongly recommended that schools comply with CDC guidance and not conduct COVID-19 testing or require testing or antibody testing of students or staff members.

Family Input Survey Results & Town Meeting on School Reopening
The data the District has collected from parent/guardians, students and staff through surveys and Town Meetings since last spring and as recently as this week has been informing the District’s reopening plans.
The Fairport Central School District has made available for the community the results of the ‘Fall 2020 Reopening: Request for Family Input’ survey sent to all District families to help the District better understand the perceptions and hopes of the school community based upon the guidelines released for a fall 2020 school reopening.
