My name is Ms. Hernandez and it is a great pleasure to be your child’s Dual Language Spanish Immersion teacher this school year.

I am very excited to start this new adventure in the Lower School together.

Learning a second language is a fun and meaningful experience when children have all the support and motivation they need.

The Dual Language program is for students to be able to read and write in Spanish and English by the end of 3rd grade.  Keep in mind that your child is learning a language that is not their native language.  They may be confused in the beginning of the school year as they continue to acquire basic language skills to communicate with us.

The program allows students to learn and develop their language skills at their own pace in a Spanish-speaking environment.

I will be posting materials in my website so that your child can practice at home. I will also be sending vocabulary words and materials we are using in the classroom. Your child can use the material as homework to acquire the skills necessary to be successful in the program.

I will send you weekly emails just to keep you posted on different things yiu can do at home to support your child!

Who is the teacher?

I have two children. A son who is 15 years old and a daughter who is 13 years old. We also have two dogs. A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Pekingese. I am from Mexico and feel very excited to be your child's Spanish teacher in Second Grade.

My educational background includes 30 years of teaching experience. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from UNAM, Mexico; a Bachelor’s degree in Preschool Education from SEP, Mexico; a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, Mexico; and a Master’s degree in International Education from Bridgewater State University, Massachusetts. I am a GLEE certified teacher for Cabarrus County and a Seesaw Ambassador.

I am also certified as an International Teacher from ECIS in London. I am currently working on pursuing an advanced degree in Applied Linguistics.

My philosophy is that all the students must have the same opportunities to construct their own learning in a safe and nurturing environment and this should be an on going and evolving process. My goals have to do with organizing student-centered lessons, to serve as a guide, to focus on individual needs and to involve students in their process of learning.

My mission for the class is that my students become independent when making decisions, that they are responsible for their actions and that learn to organize the information they learn by using different cognitive strategies.

Let's work together as a team to make this school year meaningful and full of learning experinces for your child.
