This is my 21st year teaching. I am excited about teaching English as a Second Language to our multilanguage learners. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught several grade levels in elementary school, and now high school. I believe that all students, when they are guided, prepared, and challenged, can and will succeed.

Description:
ESL (English as a Second Language) introduces students to basic and intermediate structures and vocabulary of the English Language through the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking to function proficiently in social situations as well as learn challenging academic content through the curriculum. The acquisition of language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) occurs as learners use English effectively in a variety of social and academic settings. This means that English Language Learners (ELLs) need to actively participate in all activities that involve the use of the English language.
Curriculum:
Students will learn strategies in order to advance their reading, listening, and pronunciation skills. They will expand oral comprehensibility and write complete sentences, a standard paragraph, and short content-based essays. They will utilize level-appropriate conventions of grammar and punctuation with a minimum of errors.
Goals:
- Students will use English to interact in the classroom.
- Students will interact with spoken and written English for personal expression and enjoyment.
- Students will use appropriate learning strategies to construct and apply academic knowledge.
- Students will use appropriate strategies to extend their communicative competence.
