Newest update for the Automotive Program.
ALL CELL PHONES WILL BE PLACED IN A POUCH THAT IS HANGING ON THE WALL AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS AND MAY BE RETRIEVED AT THE END OF CLASS.
THIS WILL HAPPEN EVERY DAY!!!

Student Internet Policy
STUDENT POLICIES FOR USING THE INTERNET
- Students should not access the Internet during class time unless a specific assignment is made and specific authorization is given by the teacher.
- Certain material available on the Internet is inherently inappropriate for student use. Students must avoid accessing inappropriate material and social media websites.
- Files should not be downloaded on computers or servers unless the teacher instructs students to download material. Games, music, videos, etc. will not be played or downloaded on computers or servers.
- Students may not use classroom computers to join mailing lists, order/purchase items, etc.
- Students may not send or receive messages or check e-mail during class time unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
- Students may not access files belonging to other students unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
Violation of the above policy: Student will be sent to the Control Room along with the possibility of losing computer privileges.

NORTHWEST CABARRUS HIGH SCHOOL
Syllabus for Automotive Technology, Intro, I, II, III
Grades: 9-12
Course: A Tech Prep articulated program in Automotive Technologies that includes over 600 hours of core automotive and job skill training.

WEB BASED CURRICULUM: CDX is a Website ALL my classes use. It can be accessed from home as well.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course includes classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory performance of the basic tasks included in the initial training required for employment in the automotive service field as identified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). The WEB BASED course CDX, includes the development of basic technical skills required in Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR), as well as overall vehicle maintenance and repairs. The development of core skills that students should master is integrated throughout the course. Minimum performance requirements for the course are based on successful completion of the quizzes and tests in CDX that each student must complete to pass the course. This course is in accordance to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study blueprint and the NATEF Automobile Program Standards. The Automotive Technical Standards are available online www.natef.org.
Topics of study include:
- Career planning and Employability Skills
- The Automobile, Systems, and History
- Safety and shop procedures
- Tool identification and usage
- Measurement
- Preventative Maintenance
- Brake System Theory, Diagnosis and Repair
- Electrical and Electronics Theory, Diagnosis and Repair
Assignments will be given in and out of the classroom related to CDX Curriculum, and will be assessed with a written, visual, oral, and/or hands on assessment.
Grading Policy:
Class work - 25%
Tests/Hands-On Tests/Projects - 40%
Quiz Assignments - 35%
- Students are responsible for all missed work and assessments (tests) when absent from school. A student who is absent on the day before a regularly scheduled test is responsible for taking the test on the regularly scheduled date and time.
- Students are required to make up missing assignments and assessments within 3 school days after returning from an absence. This does not include major projects and research papers, etc, when the deadline has been given in advance.
- The teacher has the discretion to grant a longer time period to make up work if there are extenuating circumstances.
- Automotive teacher is available for assistance and makeup lab work before and after school (by appointment only please).
- ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CELL PHONES OUT IN CLASS!!!
Behavior Issues:
Consequences for behavior or actions not related to learning, or deemed UNSAFE will be dealt with as follows: *1st Offence - Verbal warning with student and documented.
*2nd Offence or More - NOTIFY ADMINISTRATOR ,documented and CALL HOME!
*3rd or more - Referal

These are my Class Rules that all students will bring home and get a signature from parents explaining the outline for my classes.

*NOT WEARING SAFETY GLASSES IN SHOP AREA!!!
*CELL PHONES NOT IN POUCH AT START OF CLASS.
*BEING DISRESPECTFUL TO ANYONE.
*MISAPPROPRIATE HANDLING OF ANYONE’S PROPERTY!! *USING PROFANITY. *HORSEPLAYING in the CLASSROOM or SHOP AREAS.
*USING EQUIPMENT/TOOLS IN A UNSAFE/HARMFUL WAY.
*THREATENING or FIGHTING or WRESTLING. *DISPLAY OF UNSAFE DRIVING ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. *ANYTHING DEEMED UNSAFE OR HARMFUL ANYWHERE!!!
*ZERO TOLERANCE for these ABOVE OFFENCES*
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:
*Participate in SHOP ACTIVITIES! *Raise my hand before speaking. *Only leave the room one at a time and with the hall pass. *Bring school materials to class and have them ready. *Be in my seat when the BELL RINGS to start class. *Respect all property. (School property and personal property) *Clean my work station and Shop areas appropriately when asked.
