    Why is knowing Your Heart Rate important?????

    Below is a chart to help you understand what your heart rate is telling you.

    Heart Rate Zone chart

    I am 54 years old.  So I subtract 54 from 220= 166bpm is my max heart rate.  I then use that for figuring out which zone I am exercising in.

    I will multiply my max heart rate times the % to determine my heart rate goals for each Zone

    90%  times 166 = 149.  So when I have a heart rate of 149 or more I am in Zone 5.

     

    Zone 5      90% of 166 is 149bpm

    Zone 4      85% 0f 166 is 141bpm

    You can also use technology.  A watch or heart rate monitor.  There are also apps for your phone that you can use.
