Miss Amy VanGundy

My name is Amy VanGundy and I am excited to be one of the Special Education teachers at Carl A Furr.  This will be my 20th year of teaching and my fifth year at Carl A Furr Elementary! 

I received my Masters in Special Education and Elementary Education from Southern New Hampshire University and my Bachelors Degree in Secondary English from University of New Hampshire.  I was born in Louisville, KY but have lived in the great states of Texas, Missouri, New Hampshire, and now North Carolina.  I have one cat, Twinkie, and my dog, Roscoe who lives at home with me, but I am lucky enough to have my parents living nearby in the town of Kannapolis and my brother, his wife and my niece living in Charlotte.  

Outside of school, I love to read all sorts of books.  I also enjoy watching old black and white movies with Cary Grant, Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn, Fred Astaire, and the Marx Brothers.  I love writing and I love photography.  But at school, my goal is to create a fun and safe environment where kids can feel safe enough to make mistakes, to grow, to laugh and to be themselves.  I look forward to a great year.
