Independent Reading Assignment

 

Library Catalog  (Destiny Quest):

  • Log-in using your network username and password  (link on upper right)
  • Enter title, author or subject in “Search” box; click on “Go” twice 
  • Results will also include ebooks and digital audio books that can also be accessed directly via the “FollettShelf” tab 

 

Digital Books:

  • Follett Shelf / Destiny Discover  (all titles in FHS Library catalog and Monroe 1 BOCES)
    • Log-in using your network username and password  (link on upper right) 
    • Enter title or author in “Search” box (which will generate BOTH print and digital results) OR…
    • Scroll down to “eBooks” or “Audiobooks” and select “See all” on the right
    • Click on a specific title and  **at the bottom of the screen is the book’s citation information!!
    • Select “Open” or “Checkout” (for FHS titles, labeled Follett eBook) OR “Open” – “Borrow” – “Go to Checkouts” (for BOCES titles, labeled eBook)  **checked out titles are saved in your Account/Bookbag
    • IF the title is in the Monroe #1 BOCES Digital Library, follow directions below
    • IF the title is a Follett eBook, sign in with your network username/password (if prompted)
    • Materials can be borrowed and read online in the browser/cloud (ONLY option for Follett; highly recommended for BOCES)

 

  • Sora – Monroe #1 BOCES Digital Library
    • Select ‘Fairport Central Schools’ from the drop-down menu
    • Sign in with your network username & password
    • Explore the “Subjects” and “Collections” tabs to narrow by genre/topic OR…
    • Search for a book by title or author in digital and/or audio format; select title (if icon in top right corner of cover is shaded, item is already checked out)
    • Select “Borrow” – “Go to Checkouts” – links to your “Account” page  (place to manage all of your digital content in OverDrive)…load period is 21 days; options to ‘Renew’ and ‘Return’ title from this page
    • Select “READ (in your browser)” – allows checkout to/access in the cloud from any device by going back to the Monroe #1 BOCES Digital Library link and logging in
    • ONLY use the “Read with kindle” or “Download” option if accessing this site from a personal device, having previously installed the following apps:
      • OverDrive  (includes EPUB ebooks in the app); enter zip code to select a local library (Monroe County Library System, Monroe #1 BOCES, etc.)
      • Kindle
      • regularly install updates as prompted

 

  • Monroe County Library System
    • Sign in via:
      • library card number
      • OverDrive app
      • FaceBook
    • download titles to your own personal device by using the free OverDrive and (if preferred) Kindle apps
    • checked out items are saved in your Bookshelf

 

SUGGESTIONS…

  • CHECK OUT  the “Fiction Subject Search Guide” (linked at the bottom of the page) for specific types/genres of fiction.  Then search the library catalog (Destiny Quest) using those terms…ALSO search those topics replacing the word ‘fiction’ with ‘true narrative’

 

  • Type the title or author of a book you enjoyed in the “Search” box.  Then select it and look under “You might also like” for other reading recommendations.  Repeat on Amazon.

 

  • CHECK OUT  the “New Arrivals!” on the library catalog (Destiny Quest) homepage!  These titles are recent additions to our collection this year.

 

  • CHECK OUT  the following “Resource Lists” on the library catalog (Destiny Quest) homepage: (click on the “Public Lists” tab and scroll down:

  • Can’t find the book you want to read in our collection??  Just ASK!!  The FHS library can borrow titles from other local libraries in our area 🙂
