Fairport’s school libraries have played a key role in keeping students engaged in literacy during 2020’s change in the school schedule. For elementary students, ones of these changes is that students no longer go to the library, but rather the school library media specialist goes to each classroom to teach and brings a cart of books for students to choose from.
FHS and elementary students virtually ‘buddy up’
Fairport High School (FHS) students are pairing up with elementary students in a remote setting to engage in fun activities and conversations as part of a new volunteer experience that helps to make connections among students.
FHS Assistant Principal LeAnna Watt said that the high school has approximately 70 students who have volunteered their time to meet with students in grades K-5.
