Fairport High School (FHS) students are pairing up with elementary students in a remote setting to engage in fun activities and conversations as part of a new volunteer experience that helps to make connections among students.
FHS Assistant Principal LeAnna Watt said that the high school has approximately 70 students who have volunteered their time to meet with students in grades K-5. The buddies, one high school student to one elementary student, spend time together via the Google Meet platform to read a book, draw art, participate in brain breaks such as through Go Noodle, or engage in other fun activities.
This experience aims to support students by offering connections, which also supports the December PBIS focus at FHS of ‘The Gift of Giving’. Buddies will meet throughout the month of December for one day per week, with a goal to continue it through January if it works well.
