Experience:
I have been a School Counselor since 1999! I began my career in Burke Co. at Ray Childers Elementary. In 2006, I decided I needed a change and moved to Heritage Middle. This is when I found my love for middle school!! I came to GMS in 2011 and have been here ever since! I am also the Lead School Counselor for Caldwell County Schools.
Favorite Educational Quote and Why
"You will never know all the good a simple smile can do" Mother Teresa
I have always been the person who smiles at others. In the hallway, store, walking down the street. I feel like a smile can brighten someone's day and make them feel better. We never know what others are dealing with inside, and a smile makes a quick connection that says you care. I also feel like a positive attitude is important, and by keeping a smile on my face as often as possible, that helps keep me positive!!
Why I Became An Educator
My education story is kind of amusing because I never wanted to work in a school. Both of my parents are retired teachers, and I come from a long line of educators. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology. I have always been interested in how the mind works. I never wanted to be in education, but I always wanted to work with young people. I finished my degree to realize that I was qualified to do jobs that didn't interest me, and under qualified to do what I really wanted to do. So, I decided to go into a Master's program. My Master's degree is in Community Counseling. I wanted to work with young people dealing with addiction issues- either their own, or in their family. I had a professor who told me he thought I needed to be in the schools working- because "that's where the young people are!!". I told him I didn't want to work in a school, but he convinced me to add the School Counseling certification to my degree. I had 2 interviews in the same day for my first job. The first interview was a Community Counseling job, the second interview was to be the 2nd counselor for 3 schools. I knew immediately, that the school job was the one I wanted!! That was in March of 1999, and I know that I was meant to be right where I am!!
Favorite Place in Caldwell County
I love to be on the Greenway or on Hibriten Mountain in Caldwell Co out in nature enjoying a walk! However, my favorite places in Caldwell Co are any baseball field where my boys are playing!!
Acitivites
As mentioned before, I love to watch my sons play baseball. I also have 2 labs, Hank and Ellie. My husband and I enjoy going on walks or playing in the yard with them. My happy place is on the beach in the sun listening to music and getting a good dose of Vitamin D!!!
