Experience
I have worked in education for 22 years. I started teaching 7th grade Math at GMS in 1999. In 2000, I moved to 6th grade at GMS to teach Math. During my ten years teaching 6th grade, I earned my National Board Certification in Early Adolescent Mathematics and completed my Masters Degree in Middle School Mathematics (6-9). I transitioned to 8th grade Math in 2009 after completing my Master's Degree. I enjoyed teaching 8th Grade Math for 12 years before moving back to 6th grade for the 2021-2022 school year.
Favorite Educational Quote and Why "Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game" ~ Babe Ruth This quote applies to education because many times students are reluctant to try math because they think it is too hard or they are afraid they will mess up. I try to encourage them by reminding them you can't let your fear of making mistakes hold you back. Everyone struggles when first learning to do something even the best ball players in the world. Be courageous and play the game.
Why I Became An Educator Growing up I always loved learning and had some great teachers/coaches. Math was always one of my favorite subjects. During my middle and high school years, I began to see my ability to help explain it to others --which eventually led me to teaching.
Favorite Places in Caldwell County There are many places in Caldwell County that are near and dear to my heart. All the many schools I have attended and worked at hold great memories. I love taking my sons to the Walking Park in Lenoir to see the ducks and to fish on the banks of the river at Castle Bridge. We also love going to the Public Library and checking out books to read.
Activites I enjoy spending time with my two boys fishing, playing ball, riding bikes and reading books.
