I am a school counselor at Hickory Ridge Middle School serving students in the 8th grade. This is my fourteenth year as an educator and my sixth year at Hickory Ridge Middle School! Previously, I worked as a school counselor for six years at Hickory Ridge High School, as a graduate assistant in student affairs at UNC Charlotte, and as a 2008 Teach for America corp member teaching middle school special education in Charlotte.  I earned my Bachelor's degree at the University of Georgia and my Master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  I maintain an open-door policy and hope that you will contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. 

 

I will be working closely with eighth grade students and teachers to support all of our eighth graders as they navigate through their final year of middle school and start the process of transitioning to high school.  I work with students individually, in small groups, and through classroom guidance.  My classroom guidance topics include: high school planning, anti-bullying, academic success, positive peer relationships, and career exploration.  I will be in each classroom multiple times throughout this school year.  Students can also request to see me by following the directions on "Need to See My Counselor" form posted in all of their classrooms, requesting to see me through their teacher, or by sending me an email (kelly.lord@cabarrus.k12.nc.us).

 

A little about me...I have been married for 12 years and we have a 9 year old son and a 5 year old daughter.  I am a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan and never miss a football game!  Go Dawgs!  I love to take my dog on walks, spend time with my family, and shop at boutique stores in my free time.
