Welcome to Hickory Ridge Middle School and 8th Grade Science!
I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead and I am glad that you are in my class this year! I have been teaching middle school for the past 10 years. I teach Science with an inquiry approach. I encourage students to think critically and apply their new knowledge to the world around them. I facilitate learning for the students by providing many hands-on activities and labs.
Education and Experience:
I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. I also hold an MBA from ASU. I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2018. Previous occupations include medical research and financial analysis. I spent 6 years in a research lab at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine where I participated in breast cancer research. I also worked as a senior financial analyst for a health insurance company. In 2010, I graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a Graduate Certificate in Middle Grades Education. I am now highly qualified to teach middle school science and I have found this to be a very rewarding occupation!
Home Life
I live in Harrisburg with my husband, Chris, and our four kids. My daughter, Lindsay, is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill. My son,Grayson, is a sophomore at UNC-Charlotte. I also have twin boys (Riley and Wesley) who are seniors at Hickory Ridge High School! We spend a lot of time on the soccer fields, boating, fishing and hiking....and we love the beach when we can get there! We also have a labrador retriever named Winston:-)
