The first page of this document offers information about host and nectar plants for butterflies, and instructions to help the students do the project correctly. The second page is a grid of scale 1 foot by 1 foot for students to use to plan their garden.

This document contains the names of plants students can use to plan their garden.

Altogether there are 4 documents for this assignment. Students should carefully read this document and use the bullet points and information about plants to design a butterfly garden. Copies of this document are not clear so 1/3 page document with common and scientific names is provided. 

In option #3 students will color two Eastern Black Swallowtail Butterflies to show the differences between males and females. There is an example for students refer to as they work on the project. They must also describe the differences between males and females in complete sentences. 

In option #2 students will color two Monarch Butterflies to show the differences between male and female Monarchs. There is an example for students refer to as they work on the project. They must also describe the differences between male and female Monarchs in complete sentences. 

This document is option #1. There is a sheet of photos hanging on the white board that students may refer to as they color their pictures to learn how to identify 3 butterflies that live part of the time in North Carolina. They must also describe the butterflies in complete sentences. 

Students can choose 2 of 4 Butterfly projects to finish over the 2 days of my absence, based on this document.

This assignment is formatted as a brochure. It might be best to print it our and fold it in thirds so that it can be read more easily. There are 6 panels. Start reading under the title: "Living or not, the Molecules of Life." Then turn the page over and read the entire back 3 panels, and finally return to the front to read the last two panels.

Your assignments are on the last panel, numbered 1-4. 

Use the information in this article to fill in the Computerized Diagnostic Equipment Table. Share the table with Mr. Lawrence for a grade.
