Student Representatives to the Board

  • In an ongoing effort to elevate student voice, the Bremerton School District Board of Directors recently updated Policy 1250, Students on Governing Boards, and the Board will welcome two Student Representatives beginning with the 2023-24 school year.  BSD has been utilizing Student Representatives for years, but this year brings a change to the system and one junior and one senior will be selected to begin September 2023.  The senior will complete the year, while the junior is eligible to serve a two-year term.

In the Spring of 2024, a rising junior will be selected to join the Board and the rising senior representative at its September 2024 meeting and begin their 2-year term.  In this way, each year will begin with one experienced and one new/incoming Student Representative to the Board.  For more information on this, visit Policy 1250 and the accompanying procedures 1250P.

Students are always the focus of the Board and this is just one more way that we can receive feedback from students.  The students serve in an advisory capacity and may cast non-binding, advisory votes on items the Board is considering.  They contribute by providing student insight and perspective on decisions that affect students.  As a part of their role, these students serve as a liaison for the Associated Student Body and report to students about the work of the Board and District activities.
