Online safety for children

Local and national news have been covering a social media concern that is alarming to parents and could be harmful to students. This recent increase in online safety concerns is an appropriate time to revisit students’ online behaviors in school and at home.

The challenge that is surfacing involves a fictitious video character that allegedly challenges viewers to contact them via private message and then perform acts to avoid being “cursed.” These acts are said to include self-harm and extreme actions such as suicide.

Northside students produce morning show segment for Black History Month

Throughout the month of February, Northside students have directed a series of iMovie trailers for the Northside Morning Show called “Heroes Sharing Heroes.” The segment is in honor of Black History Month.

Community budget meeting to be held March 7

Superintendent’s Perspective – February 2019

Dear Fairport Families and Community:

As we head into February recess, true to form, there are so many meaningful events occurring in all of our schools.

Planning for the 2019-20 school budget is underway. In December, the Board of Education adopted the following budget goals:

  • Allocate financial and human resources to support
    • Instructionally and developmentally appropriate class sizes
    • Mental Health and other unique learning needs of students
    • Variety of ways to engage students in our schools
    • Curriculum management related to educational programming priorities
    • Maintenance of aging facilities to support 21st-century learning
  • Allocate up to 1 percent of our annual budget on identified needs via the Building Condition Survey
  • Continue to identify and employ cost containment measures to manage expenditures
  • Review the use of all reserves and establish prudent “floors” for reserves to support district sustainability
